Although Smith says he'll be back, his return won't be for 6 to 10 weeks, according to Jets coach Todd Bowles.

"There was an altercation in the locker room," Bowles said during an impromptu press conference on Tuesday, via the New York Daily News. "Had nothing to do with football. Something very childish. He got cold cocked, sucker punched whatever you want to call it, in the jaw."

It was "something very childish that sixth-graders could have talked about and it had no reason to happen," he explained. "Something you don't tolerate."

“It’s something we can’t stand,” Bowles continued. “You don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face.”

Enemkpali, an outside linebacker who was drafted by the Jets last year, released a statement regarding his release on Tuesday afternooon.

"I apologize to the Jets organization, coaches, teammates and fans," Enemkpali said. "Geno and I let our frustration get the best of us, but I should have just walked away from the situation. I deeply regret and apologize for my actions. It was never my intention to harm anyone. I appreciate the opportunity I had with the Jets."
