The Vampire Diaries premiered its new season with a bang; literally, as Stefan (Paul Wesley), Caroline (Candice King) and some of the other residents of Mystic Falls viewers love plotted against Lily's (Annie Wersching) heretic family with a bomb.

Unfortunately their plan failed and many lives were lost as the heretics sought revenge.

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) eventually returned to town and ended the undead life of one of Lily's favorite heretics, Malcolm (Justice Leak), which led to Enzo (Michael Malarkey) picking Team Lily and therefore knocking out and kidnapping Caroline as part of the revenge for the loss of Malcolm.

Will Damon & Stefan Torture Lily In New 'Vampire Diaries' Season?

TVLine spoke with executive producer Julie Plec about Enzo's decision and it turns out he might not totally be Team Lily after all.

"I don't know if he's officially a bad guy; he's someone who's always been on the fringe, looking for a tribe," Plec explained, adding, "He's chosen Lily and her tribe because she's the one person who's been consistently warm and caring towards him. As the person who sired him, he feels this loyalty to her that he's having a hard time shaking."

It's clear he is helping Lily and her heretic family seek revenge over the loss of Malcolm, but Enzo will question if his loyalties are to all of them or just Lily.

"He's definitely made his allegiance clear, but ultimately, he's going to have to ask himself, 'Is my allegiance to this crazy group of people, or is it to Lily? And if it is to Lily, why?' He'll be faced with some interesting questions about why he cares so much," Plec stated.

So it sounds like Enzo will be torn in a sense.

The Vampire Diaries airs on The CW on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
