The Vampire Diaries is known for using flashbacks to give plenty of backstory on the beloved characters from Mystic Falls.

Those flashbacks will continue to be an asset to the series in the new season, which will divulge more information about Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan's (Paul Wesley) dad Giuseppe Salvatore.

Previously James Remar portrayed Giuseppe in previous episodes' flashbacks, but John Charles Meyer will take over the role in this new season.

Annie Wersching, the portrayer of Lily, shared a photo with her onscreen husband some days ago as the cast has been filming in Georgia for the season's seventh episode.

TVLine confirmed this news on Friday and dished that Meyer will definitely be in the seventh episode as Damon and Stefan's dad during flashbacks. About a week ago, Wersching shared a snap from the woods where many scenes for The Vampire Diaries are shot.

She also shared a photo of her on-screen sons and dished in the caption, "Spending my Monday being tortured by these two...." so perhaps Damon and Stefan won't exactly be bonding with their mama in the new season.

 

There is a lot of tension especially since Lily picked her heretic family over Damon and Stefan.

The series returns to The CW in the fall for Season 7 on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
