A death hoax circulating around Mickey Rourke surfaced on the Internet this week, stating that the "Iron Man 2" actor "died" following a snowboarding accident.

A user of Global Associated News created the hoax and claimed that Rourke was vacationing in Switzerland during the time of the accident. He allegedly was snowboarding down a mountain when he lost control and crashed into a tree, according to an "eyewitnesses."

"Mickey Rourke was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash," according to the hoax report. "The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death."

At the bottom of the site, however, it is posted, "THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes!"

Global Associated News has a death hoax template that works as a generator, allowing any user to type in a celebrity's name, pick a story and send out a death hoax report. The generator has only six stories that it carries, so many of the reports claim that celebrities died the same way.

Rourke, 60, started as an amateur boxer before becoming an actor in the 1980s and starring in  "Diner," "Rumble Fish, "9 ½ Weeks" and "Barfly." Her quit acting to become a professional boxer in 1991 but due to many injuries to his face, including a broken nose and a fractured cheekbone, he had plastic surgery that dramatically changed his appearance, according to International Business Times. He returned to acting and had prominent roles in films such as "Domino," "The Wrestler," "The Expendables" and "Sin City." He will star in "Java Heat," set to release in 2013, and return as Marv in this year's "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For."
