On Monday, while crossing a highway in Napa, Calif., Coventry was hit by a truck and killed, and according to state officials, the 37-year-old may have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Although Coventry's ex-husband, John, acknowledged Hefner's former girlfriend as a "party animal," while speaking to the Daily Mail, he denied she was drunk at the time of the deadly incident.

"It's a slur," he said. "There is no evidence of this. There's an awful amount of confusion as to what happened. Some people say the truck stopped, others said it didn't. There's a major investigation and it will then go to the coroner and they will decide if it's an accident or manslaughter or whatever. It's all a bit strange. She had booked herself into a hotel and spa in San Francisco, and then for some inexplicable reason she left the hotel and for another inexplicable reason she crossed the highway and was run over."

"I was devastated when I heard what had happened," he continued. "My first thoughts were just horror for our children. For any child of that age to be without their mother is appalling.. I still can't believe this has happened. [Courtney] was a Beverley Hills girl through and through - a party animal, full of life. She lived life to the full and was great fun."

Coventry and her former husband, John, shared three children together, Ashley, 15, Rachel, 13, and Amanda, 10,
