Hugh Hefner was the latest victim of an Internet death hoax, and the Playboy founder nixed the rumors in a clever way.

Celebs Who Fell Victim To A Death Hoax

According to false news reports, the 88-year-old was reported dead over the weekend of natural causes. The fake report went viral with over 350,000 shares and 125,000 likes on Facebook.

Yet, as the death reports circulated, Hefner was getting ready to watch a movie at the Playboy mansion with his wife, Crystal Harris, and several others.

“Tonight's Mansion movie is ‘American Sniper,’” he tweeted on Sunday night.

He then retweeted his wife’s photo, which showed the couple hanging out with two others. Hefner sported a silk black shirt while Harris wore a blue dress.

“Movie night with the family,” the caption reads.

Hefner revealed he was aware of the death hoax by retweeting a Twitter user who wrote, “I Googled @hughhefner and it said he died but still made it to movie night. Lol. The internet is an odd place sometimes.”

That day, Hefner’s wife of two years, also shared a quote that fit perfectly for the situation.

“A lie can run around the world before the truth has got it's boots on. #QuoteOfTheDay,” she wrote.
