From economic disparity to high school politics, American Crime is ready to hit all the bases as season 2 unravels a tale of sexual assault.

ABC anthology series will return with on Jan. 6 to take viewers into the case of Taylor Blaine (Connor Jessup), a teenager who accuses members of an affluent high school basketball team of sexual assault as revealing photos hit the Internet. Trading Modesto, Calif. for Indianapolis, the drama will welcome Falling Skies Jessup to the cast as Regina King, Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, Elvis Nolasco, Lili Taylor take on all new roles for the sophomore run.

In the premiere, Taylor will "accuse two players on an elite private high school's championship basketball team - Kevin LaCroix and Eric Tanner - of drugging, assaulting and then posting the pictures of him online." As a public and private school collide over a very personal issue, Hutton's Dan Sullivan will attempt to keep the basketball team together, Huffman's Leslie Graham will struggle to clear her school's soiled reputation, and Taylor's girlfriend will face race problems on campus.

As viewers gear up for the premiere, they should prepare for an emotional rollercoaster.

"I've been doing this a long time, I've been in lot of writers' rooms. This is one of the most emotional rooms I've ever been in...this season hit me very hard, " executive producer John Ridley told Variety. "It's been really tough to deal with."

As the season progresses, Ridley promises that fans will be ready to rally around Jessup's young victim.

"He's a young man you're going to be rooting for," he said. "He's got it, he really does."
