Mr. Robot will not fall into the deadly trap that ensnared so many of its predecessors - the series will not continue indefinably merely due to high ratings.

The series, which received a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, has a definitive ending in mind. Instead of dragging the narrative out long past it's life span, the creators of Mr. Robot are hoping to keep the hacker drama fresh by limiting the run to five seasons.

"I still stick to four or five," series creator Sam Esmail told Entertainment Weekly. The future is still uncertain, and Esmail says the ultimate episode order is "something we'll always have to adjust after every season. I definitely don't think it's more than five [seasons]."

To accomplish this goal, Esmail is building a narrative with a purpose.

"What I am beholden to is that I did have an ending in mind when I wrote the feature, and I am building the story toward that ending," Esmail explained. "One thing I never wanted to do with this show was to take a road where we can just go on and on and belabor this until the ratings drop and they cancel it or we end it."
