Cam Newton welcomed a son on Christmas Eve with girlfriend, Kia Proctor, who the Carolina Panthers quarterback had been dating for a couple of years.

Although the athlete stayed silent about the news for a while, he confirmed his son's arrival with the following tweet on Wednesday:

According to a report by Heavy on Wednesday, Newton and Proctor began dating in 2013, and first appeared together at the Kentucky Derby.

Proctor, who has one child from a previous relationship, was born and raised in the Virginia/Maryland area and once worked as a model and stripper named Hazel.

During a recent inteview, Newton opened up about his new role as a father.

"It's pretty cool, it's pretty cool, just all fathers can speak on... When you see life coming to existence it's a wonderful thing and these past couple of days have been monumental for me."

He then went on to joke about his child's potential, saying, "I took him out for a jog yesterday. He was running alongside of me. No, I'm serious, I'm serious.. He has a couple of scholarship offers on the table, things of that sort. I'm not pushing him into anything, he's just super already."
