Kerry Washington might star in one of prime time’s biggest hits, Scandal on ABC, but she’s opting out of attending one of the biggest award shows of the season.

In an interview published Friday, Washington told E! News that she will not be going to the Golden Globes in just a couple of days.

“I’m not going on Sunday,” she said at the HBO Winter TCA party in Pasadena recently. “It was a decision and I’m sure it’ll be a great night and everybody who’s there will have a good time.”

She added the awards show will still get her support as she plans on tuning in from the comfort of her own home.

Still, it’s not clear why she has decided not to go this year.

But it’s definitely not because of any beef with Scandal creator and writer Shonda Rhimes.

Washington said, “Shonda is a rock star and a superhero, and if you have not read her book, it should be your New Year’s resolution for 2016.”

Rhimes penned How to Dance It Out, Stand In The Sun and Be Your Own Person that was released at the tail end of 2015.

Washington added, “It’s so good. She’s just a superstar. She’s my personal superhero. I’m on one show and I have one child. She’s got three shows and three kids! I don’t know how she does it.”

News that Washington is not attending the ceremony comes on the heels of rumors that she and her husband are having marital issues.
