Following a lackluster 2015 season with the San Francisco 49ers, quarterback Colin Kaepernick has reportedly set his sights on the New York Jets.

Although Kaepernick is currently in the midst of a $114 million contract, which he signed after his stellar 2014 season with the team, he could move on to the Jets with a trade, or by being cut from the 49ers.

"The 49ers must make a decision to keep, trade or cut Kaepernick before April 1 when his 2016 base salary of $11.9 million becomes guaranteed," the New York Daily News reported on Tuesday. "San Francisco would save $8.5 million by cutting Kaepernick, who is scheduled to have a $15.9 million cap charge this season."

During the 2015 season, Kaepernick finished a mere 2-6 as a starter under coach Jim Tomsula, who replaced former head coach Jim Harbaugh. Hover, along with new coach Chip Kelly, team owner Jed York was hoping for a new start, and said there was “no question” that Kaepernick would re-gain his starting job later this year.

"I've always had a very, very high opinion of Kap,” York said. “Kap's a great kid. He's done a lot of great things for us. Again, this is a fresh start for everybody."

The New York Daily News also noted that the Jets' general manager, Mike Maccagnan, and head coach, Todd Bowles, have expressed their interest in resigning Ryan Fitzpatrick to the quarterback position, but said "nothing is guaranteed" quite yet.
