After Michael Oher became a reagent following his 2014 season, the Carolina Panthers revealed plans to sign the offensive tackle, and right away, their quarterback, Cam Newton was on board.

Because the Panthers were set to lose left tackle Byron Bell, they were in desperate need of Oher, and Newton was confident he was the man for the job. So, rather than let the deal happen naturally, Newton took charge, sending a text message directly to the inspiration behind the hit film The Blindside.

“I need you. I don’t want you. I NEED you,” Newton's message read.

According to the New York Daily News, Oher is having his best statistical season thus far, and on Sunday, at 17-1, the Panthers will take on the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.

“It’s Cam Newton. You get a text from Cam Newton telling you that he needs you, well, you appreciate that. It’s definitely something that resonated with me,” Oher said of the message on Monday.

Panthers center Ryan Kalil is also on board with Oher's addition to the team.

“Michael Oher has a great personality and an incredible work ethic,” Kalil said. “You talk about trying to add talent to your football team, but you also want good character guys who will rub off on the younger guys and show guys what it means to be a pro — and Michael Oher is the epitome of that.”
