Yandy Smith of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop New York is getting lots of me-time while her husband, Mendeecees Harris serves time in federal prison. And she took the time to switch up her look a little bit, but fans don’t necessarily love it.

Smith debuted her grey hair color on Instagram as she showed off her new wig Sunday.


Harris Comes For Fan Who Laughs At His Legal Woes It didn’t take long for fans to share their thoughts.

“Your own hair is beautiful. The gray only ages ur youthful looks.”

“I love your really curly hair more than the wig.”

“The process should’ve never happened that wig was not cute…”

Still, it wasn’t all bad. Some fans pointed out that Smith’s new look was “giving” them “so much life…”

Many fans also encouraged her to rock her natural hair.

“Luv your natural beauty better...You rock anything with class…”

“I like your own better.”

The comments didn’t stop Smith from sharing the completed look. She revealed in the caption that she was channeling X-Men character Storm.

After the brief drama, she didn’t even keep the look for very long and went back to what fans are used to seeing her rock. But not before giving her critics a quick lesson.

“Some of y’all need to loosen up. ‘Stick to your long straight, stay real with your natural hair, no color…’ Hair does not define me ladies and gentleman. I switch it up as I please, give you natural, give you sweave, give you black, gray blonde or blue. I own my business so I don’t have to succumb to the status quo or a toned down muted life…I encourage you all to try something new once in awhile. It’s fun!!”
