Nurse Crane is then going to be called upon to help a mother in a post-natal emergency, which might bring a young couple closer together. And eventually, sister Evangelina will return with some changes of her own.

Stephen McGann, who plays Dr. Turner on the series, previously opened up to Radio Times about another change he might have to deal with that will be important for his health- his smoking habits.

"It's been coming for Doctor Turner," the actor said. "In the 1950s they were beginning to suss out the effects of smoking. There was a famous British Medical Journey study done. They wanted thousands of smokers to take part in a long-term survey and they wanted professional people who could be relied on to give good data. Who did they go to? The doctors. Our understanding was actually increased by the Doctor Turners of the world."

Call the Midwife Season 5 is expected to premiere in the United States on Sunday, April 3 on PBS.
