DiCaprio received his fifth Oscar nomination this year for his harrowing performance in The Revenant. The actor clearly gave it his all for his role as Hugh Glass, a fur trapper left behind by his men and ultimately seeks revenge. The movie has had massive success at the box office and in the award season, grossing over $165 million domestically and having the most Oscar nominations out of any movie, with 12.

With near-universal support among all the branches of the Academy, it seems pretty certain right now that DiCaprio is getting the Oscar. But is this the right role for him to be winning it?

DiCaprio has had incredible success in his career, even as a child when he received his first Oscar nomination at the age of 18 for What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He would go on to star in Titanic, one of the highest grossing movies of all time, in addition to such beloved movies as Inception, Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby, The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street.

The movie star was perhaps at his best as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street, a role that combined not just his physical side but also his million-dollar charm. He gave similarly charming performances in movies he wasn't even nominated for, like The Great Gatsby and Catch Me If You Can.

Yet this is not to say his performance in The Revenant is not worth rewarding. The thousands of voters at organizations like the SAG Awards, the Golden Globes, the Broadcast Film Critics' Association, BAFTA and various critics groups believe him to be the very best lead actor of the year for this role.

It does beg the question, though, of whether DiCaprio is winning on the strength of his performance or due to his overdue status and popularity within the industry. What do you think? Vote in our poll below:
