Gabrielle Union and her husband Dwyane Wade are definitely one of Hollywood’s most popular blended families. And now the BET Being Mary Jane actress has opened up about being a stepmother to his four boys.

“I recognize that I am lucky. Not everyone has the same situation,” she told Us Weekly at a Lime-a-Rita event in New York City Friday (Feb. 22). “My advice is just to be fair. If you’re going to be a pushover, be a pushover. If you’re going to be a disciplinarian, be a disciplinarian. Be consistent so that [the kids] can get used to whoever it is that you are."

Wade is father to 14-year-old Ziare, Zion, 8, Xavier, 2, and his nephew Dahveon.

There was a lot of drama surrounding their family in the past. Wade fathered Xavier during a time that he and Union say they were on a “break.”

Union has also been accused of being the other woman after she started dating Wade when he was legally married to his first wife.

Still, the couple and their close ones seem to have moved past the drama. And Union has opened up about having children of her own with Wade.

She revealed in Redbook magazine last year, “So far, it has not happened for us. A lot of my friends deal with this. There’s a certain amount of shame that is placed on women who have perhaps chosen career over starting a family younger. The penance for being a career woman is barrenness. You feel like you’re wearing a scarlet letter.”
