The ratings continued to shrink, and unfortunately, that has led to the devastating news for the loyal fans of MTV's Faking It that the show has been canceled and won't be getting a fourth season at the cable channel.

The series will come to an official end with the May 17th episode, which was initially a season three finale, but will instead serve as a series finale, something that has been devastating to fans of the groundbreaking show, which served to show that labels on sexuality didn't need to be an issue, and also explored the stories of gay, lesbian, bisexual, sexually conflicted and confused, transgender and intersex characters (it was the first show in history to feature an Intersex character prominently).

When the news came down about the show's fate however, fans quickly acted in an effort to try and find the series a new home, and a petition on Change.org has quickly garnered a impressive number of signatures.

The petition, which went up on the site on May 13 and needed 15,000 signatures has already reached 11,411 as of press time, with just 3,589 to go.

However, in an interview about the show coming to an end with The Hollywood Reporter, creator Carter Covington said he didn't think there was a chance the show would be able to live on anywhere else due to the cost to produce it, which was high when the numbers simply weren't there with viewers.

"Unfortunately, MTV owns the show and usually shopping would be started by the studio and we don't have a studio," he explained when asked about the possibility. "There isn't an entity that could shop it. It would have to be someone asking to buy the show from MTV and make more. And because our ratings weren't strong, I don't know if there would be any suitors. Sadly, I think this is the end."And despite being sad about the show's unfortunate premature end (Covington admitted that there was no chance for him to tie up all the loose ends and explore all of the avenues that he wanted to), he and the members of the show's cast have taken to social media to share fond memories, reflect on the love and support of their fans, and share that they are still going to be proud of the work they did, even though they don't get to finish it the way they had hoped.
