Lana Parrilla talks what it's going to be like to play two different characters on ABC's Once Upon a Time next season.

The season 5 finale of Once Upon a Time featured Regina's past as the Evil Queen manifest in the present, and now both are walking the Earth simultaneously.

Parrilla recently spoke about having to play these two characters in season 6 and how it's still being worked out in the writers' room.

"I think it's still being discovered by all of us. Really, what it is, it's not split personality, but it's like two separate Reginas," she said in a new Entertainment Weekly interview (featured below). "The Evil Queen and the hero Regina. So it's gonna be really fun to play both sides in a different way than I have in the previous five seasons 'cause I've always played two sides. She's always been both, but she's never been split."

Parrilla was also asked about the show's diehard fans looking up to Regina - despite some of the terrible things she's done.

"That Regina inspires them," Parrilla said, of the most surprising fan feedback she's received. "Which I love, because she's like this horrible, murder villain and yeah, but she's come full circle and she's worked on herself and that's inspired so many - that good can come from broken is really her message."

Meanwhile, Regina is still grieving over the death of Robin (Sean Maguire) in the penultimate episode. This grief will continue, in a way, into season 6, as the actress alluded to in a TVLine interview before the season finale.

"I feel like Regina is in a hopeless place right now, and we're going to see how she deals with those emotions in the season finale and also in Season 6," she said.

Once Upon a Time returns this fall for season 6 Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
