Tom Cruise the latest celebrity victim of a death hoax.

The Oblivion actor was reported dead Friday by 9 News, an Australian TV station. The site has since removed any mention of the report, but Global Associated News via attributes its death hoax story to 9 News.

The death hoax stated that Cruise died Friday in a single-car crash while on vacation in Queensland, Australia, which was later "confirmed" by Royal Queensland Police. Cruise was identified by a photo ID found at the scene. The crash was alleged to have occurred on one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the country.

However, the entire report is false. At the bottom of the story it reads after "about this website" the following: "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes!"

Examiner noted that Cruise was in Los Angeles at the premiere of Oblivion with actress Olga Kurylenko on Wednesday night.

GlobalAssociatedNews.com has a death hoax template that works as a generator. Users can type in a celebrity's name, pick a story and send out a death hoax report, according to the site. The generator has only six stories that it carries, so many of the reports claim that celebrities died the same way.

The site also started a death hoax that Russell Brand, Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler died in ski accidents. Other celebrities involved in death hoaxes stemming from the website include Robert Pattinson, Bill Cosby, Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn.
