They were supposed to be leaving Los Angeles and heading back to Salem, but Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Joey's (James Lastovic) plans will be put on indefinite hold when tragedy strikes at the commune on Days of Our Lives.

Despite Joey's legal troubles stemming from his taking full blame for the robberies committed by Jade (Paige Searcy), Dirk and others at Simone's (Siena Goines) request, the Johnson clan was ready to go home, with the knowledge they would come back to town when it was time for Joey to face a judge for his charges. But, despite his taking the blame for everything, something will happen with Dirk that will lead to a hostage crisis.

Dirk was enraged that Joey was the one who had won over Jade, and he could witness a moment between the two as Joey prepares to leave that suggests that even though Jade said they were done because Joey wasn't willing to continue to take risks for her, that she still wants him, especially since Dirk gives off an impression to her of someone who could be capable of causing great harm. And in a fit of jealous rage, Dirk will prove her suspicions right, by grabbing a gun and holding Joey hostage.

Now, not only will he, Kayla and Steve be forced to stay put right where they are, but Joey's life could genuinely be on the line, with an unstable Dirk ready to shoot and kill him. Kayla and Steve will need to put their best skills to the test as they try to negotiate for their son's safe return, but Dirk may be too far gone to listen to reason, and things could get ugly and take a horrifying turn very quickly, and Joey could wind up shot and clinging to life as a result.

Afterwards, all Steve and Kayla will be able to do will then hope and pray their son can make it through and come back to them.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
