The season finale of Chicago Fire is gearing up to introduce characters for a potential spinoff. Weather the offspring of the Windy City drama makes it to air next fall remains to be seen.

While the current NBC program focuses on the Chicago fire department, the spinoff would take a look at the police side of the city, reports TV Guide.

"I've heard things, but it's a little premature to say. We don't know too much about it," Taylor Kinney, who plays Kelly Severide, told Access Hollywood. "But there's something in the works, that's about as much as I know."

Deadline reports that Kelly Blatz (Glory Daze), Melissa Sagemiller (Law & Order: SVU), Tania Raymonde (Switched at Birth), and Scott Eastwood (Texas Chainsaw 3D) have been cast for roles in the season finale and presumably would carry their characters into a new series.

"Hopefully, this show is growing," said executive producer Dick Wolf, according to The Wrap.  "Hopefully, it's coming back. And, hopefully it will be doing better next year. This has been an incredibly positive experience this season for everyone involved in the show."

If NBC is looking to create a spinoff, there's no better person to have at the helm than Wolf. With the successful Law & Order franchise under his belt, the producer knows what it takes to make a brand.

However, the network has yet to announce if they are even renewing Chicago Fire.
