McKayla Maroney was winning a gold medal as a gymnast in the 2012 Olympics, but where is she now?

Maroney was part of the Fierce Five along with Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber back in 2012. Now the 2016 Olympics having come and gone, with just as much interest in the U.S. team led by Simone Biles. With interest in Olympic gymnastics rising yet again, there's always the question of what people like Maroney are up to these days.

Well, you won't be seeing Maroney on the horizontal bar anytime soon. That's because the 20-year-old is now focusing on her music career.

"I like to say my genre is vulnerable pop because it's all melody and lyrically driven and heart driven," Maroney told Us Weekly in a recent interview, admitting that her "favorite thing to sing about is love."

She is set to put out her first single called "Ghost" on Sept. 8, and from the look of her recent tweets, she is in the studio working on more music.

Maroney told Us Weekly that the transition from being an Olympic gold medalist to having various health issues wasn't an easy on.

"I lost myself. It was an identity crisis, no doubt," she admitted. "I would go and meet people and they'd tell me, 'You're the gymnast.' And I'm like, now that I'm no longer a competing gymnast, it throws people off and that would throw me off. I don't want to let people down. It was such a big test for me to be like, you know what? No! I'm worth more than a gold medal. I'm worth more than being a gymnast. I am not what I do. I am who I am and I'm what I love."
