Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard filmed Allied earlier this year, and throughout production, they were targeted with rumors of an affair.

While those rumors were shot down at the time, fans are now wondering if something was going on between them that led to Angelina Jolie's recent divorce filing.

Although fans may never know what went down between Pitt and Cotillard for sure, the producer of Allied spoke out weeks ago and confirmed that the rumored couple's chemistry on set was "electric."

"Brad and Marion immediately had the utmost respect for each other, so once they delved into their characters, their chemistry was electric," producer Graham King told PEOPLE Magazine.

In the film, Pitt and Cotillard play undercover allies who develop a romance as they plan "a high-profile assassination" and prior to the start of production, they were said to have spent time together in order to "hone their performances."

"It was crucial for Brad and Marion to not only begin rehearsing together before the shoot, but they also spent a lot of time developing their characters with the director, Robert Zemeckis," King said about the weeks leading up to production. "By the time we got to set, it was really amazing to see these characters already feel lived in and real."

Pitt's wife, Jolie, filed for divorce from the actor on Monday after just over two years of marriage and six children together. TMZ was first to report the news.
