American Idol host Ryan Seacreast has taken on a new role as a producer for a Telemundo singing competition show.

The show entitled, Superstar Showdown will feature two established artists that will compete against each other to win the audience's vote, Associated Press reported.

Emilio Romano, president of Telemundo Media, said he hopes that Seacrest will utilize his connections and leverage from American Idol to attract talented artists. The network has yet to confirm a start date for the series, but Romano said the spanish-speaking network will work to be one of the top television channels.

"We've been the underdog for so many years and we've been given the mission to fight and fight hard," Romano said.

Romano said he hopes that Telemundo will stand apart from it's competition by creating content or telenovelas that are similar to the U.S. He also hopes the network will speak more to an American audience.

On Sunday, the Telemundo announced several of it's program plans for the upcoming season. According to Associated Press, Telemundo had its highest ratings ever during the first three months of 2013.

Unlike Telemundo, this 2013 season of American Idol has underwent it's lowest ratings since 2002.

After judge Randy Jackson announced his departure last week, many fans have been speculating if Seacrest will be leaving the show too.

Back in January, AL producer Nigel Lythogoe credited Seacrest and said he drives the entire program.

"He's not on an ear piece or anything...he controls the show, so he is really important," Lythogoe said.

Seacrest has yet to confirm if he will come back for another season, but sources confirmed that some of the current AL judges may be getting the boot.

Fox sources revealed that Mariah Carey is getting fired. The source indicated that there will "definitely be no Mariah," while decisions on Nicki Minaj and country singer Keith Urban have yet to be made.

"Yes, we want to do a whole new panel-but, just like last time around, it depends on who we get," the source said.
