It's been months since Google has released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Nexus devices and after those other smartphone makers have slowly started rolling out the update to their smartphones as well. Xiaomi has been lagging behind its competitors, but now a company official has now delivered some promising news regarding the Android 7.0 Nougat update.

Firstly spotted by GizmoChina on micro blogging site Weibo, the company's MIUI operations manager mentioned that beta testing of the software is under process. Amazingly, the Xiaomi Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Note and Mi Max will be the first smartphones to receive the Android Nougat update in the coming weeks.

However, there is no word on other devices such as the Mi 5, the Mi 5s, the Mi 5s Plus, the recently launched Mi MIX concept phone, and Mi Note 2. The highly popular Redmi Note 3 is also not a part of the list yet. A post on MIUI forums had also that suggested that the Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3A will be updated to the latest version.

While the official mentioned about the devices, he did not reveal any fixed timeframe for the final release. Although, a couple of months ago, we came across leaked screenshot of what appears to be the MIUI 9 interface carrying version number 6.9.23.

The update is all set to bring Android 7.0 Nougat features like multi-window to run two apps side-by-side, inline notification also feature to reply to text messages right and instant messages from notification panel. The feature also works on other apps such as Telegram Messenger, Hike Messenger and WhatsApp among others.

Google has also introduced improved Doze that will put background apps in hibernation mode when your smartphone screen is turned off. There is also 'project svelte' that will aim to optimize RAM usage and minimize the memory used by the system and apps.

Users of Xiaomi devices mentioned above can get the Nougat update sometime during Q1 of 2017.
