Will Smith revealed that parenting is very much experimental for him in an interview with Good Morning America on May 31.

Will and his son Jaden have been promoting their new film After Earth, which was released last Friday. The 44-year-old film star told host Robin Roberts what he wanted his son to learn from him. In addition to his desire to pass the box office torch to 14-year-old Jaden, Will said that he was still learning what to teach his son. He became emotional when Roberts showed the two actors a picture of Jaden as a baby.

"Every time I look at the picture, I was looking like, what am I going to do with this thing? You know. And it's like - parenting is hit or miss,'" Will said.

Will also added that being a parent was experimental for him. With Jaden sitting beside him, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air star stated that there was still much for him to learn as a parent. He was not sure that his decisions were always the best and that he was trying to do his best.

"So for me, it's a deep uncertainty, that I carry around, with my kids," Will said. "I just try to teach them everything that I know and love them as hard as I can love them. And hope for the best."

Will was more certain about how Jaden could improve upon his skills as a teenager. He advised the teenager to become a better runner. The I Am Legend movie star told Jaden that he needed to model himself after Olympian Usain Bolt.

'If you run the wrong way, if you don't look right when you're running, it [doesn't] seem like you can save the world!" he joked.

Will and Jaden's After Earth opened third at the box office this weekend in North America. The futuristic film debuted to $27 million, which many insiders have deemed a flop as it fell below expectations.

"With atrocious reviews and terrible word-of-mouth, the opening could have been much worse," Tim Briody of Boxofficeprophets.com told USA Today Monday.
