Fans of Neal and Sara may be in for a treat when White Collar returns for its fifth season in September.

"There's discussion about bringing Sara back," said a source close to White Collar on Wednesday. TVLine's Michael Ausiello reported that nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but he is estimating that an announcement will be made within the next few weeks.

Hilarie Burton, who has been recurring as Sara since season 2 of the show, said in May that she had "no idea what's going on" with the possibility of bringing her back. She said that it would be good for her to be missing for the show for a while to give her next appearance more impact.

Neal and Sara, notorious for their on-again-off-again relationship decided to be just friends last season, though Sara indicated that she still had some lingering feelings for him.

Things became complicated when it was announced on June 5 that Bridget Regan would be signing on to play Neal's new love interest for season 5. The Beauty and the Beast actress will be playing book scholar Rebecca Lowe for a 10-episode arc.

Regan's role seems to be significant, considering one of her recent tweets. On June 6 she tweeted to her followers the nameplate on her dressing room.

Burton caused waves on Grey's Anatomy in May when her character Lauren came between Callie and Arizona's relationship. It is unknown if she will return in the fall for season 10, so her role on White Collar may be relegated to only one or two episodes, if at all.

White Collar is currently filming its fifth season in New York City.

The show will be debuting its fifth season in October 2013 on the USA network.
