Now that Kate Middleton and Prince William have named their son George Alexander Louis, many royal fans want to know---why that name?

The Daily Mail reported that while there has been much speculation as to the inspiration behind the names, the couple picked George as the little Prince's first name, with Alexander and Louis as middle names simply because "they liked them--no more, no less."

Though there is no royal protocol that requires the name must be given approval, it is believed that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge discussed the name with The Queen during their 30-minute meeting Wednesday.

Shortly after, the couple informed members of their family, before the news broke to the public at 6:15pm.

A statement issued by their office at Kensington Palace said: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis."

"The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge."

Compared to when Princess Diana named Prince William back in 1982, which took one week, it only took the royal name two days to be released.

George is also the fourth name of the Prince of Wales and  "is obviously a tribute to the Queen's father and will, I imagine, give Her Majesty great pleasure.," a source said.

Louis, the baby's third name, is William's fourth name - he is William Arthur Philip Louis. Prince Charles reportedly chose the name as a tribute to his close friend, Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh's uncle. He died in August 1979 when his ship was blown up on a fishing trip in Ireland.

The new parents were spotted leaving Kensington Palace around 1pm with Prince George. They were on their way to Bucklebury in Berkshire, where they will stay with Middleton's parents.

On Tuesday when Middleton and Prince William showcased Prince George to the public outside St. Mary's hospital, the proud dad gushed about his little boy.

"He's got a good pair of lungs. That's for sure," William told the crowd. "He's a big boy. He's quite heavy."
