Grey's Anatomy is one of television's longest running and most beloved television shows. They have seen the world change. In this newest season, they have taken on the reality of the Coronavirus pandemic head on, and it has made for some facinating storytelling.

In this newest season, we are already seeing a newer character that may already have one foot out the door.

The well loved Dr. Cormac Hayes will be leaving the show. The character, played by the incredible Richard Flood, according to a Deadline article, will be seen in his last episode next week.

Flood came onto the show in season 16. From there, he was made a series regular for the next season, and has now remained until season 18. Unfortunately, his intended storylines, involving romances between Hayes and Meridith Grey (played, of course, by Ellen Pompeowere interrupted by the pandemic.

We do not yet know the reason behind this departure. The representatives for Shondaland and ABC have not commented on the news.

Fans will be sad to see him go. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Flood reflected that the Grey's Anatomy fandom has been very good to him.

Oh, the fans have been very kind to me. When you come into a show like this, you never really know how it's going to be or if the character that you're portraying is going to be of any interest to people. But I think the fact that he was sent by Cristina Yang was a big help in ingratiating the character with the Grey's fandom.

I thought it was interesting that we know that, the fans understand that, but the character doesn't actually know that. The character doesn't know that they've been having these conversations, or that he's been sent there by her. So it was fun to play with that idea that he's oblivious. He doesn't know that he's been thrown into the deep end of the pool.

We are going to be sad to see him go!
