Paul Bettany reflected on the "embarrassing" time when his text messages with Johnny Depp were read out during the latter's libel court case.

When the legal showdown between Depp and The Sun over the wife-beater claim started, Bettany's name had been linked to it after Barrister for News Group Newspapers (NGN) Sasha Wass QC read out the texts exchange of the two actors in front of the High Court.

Though that phase already happened, Bettany recently spoke about it again in an interview with The Times and called it an "embarrassing" incident.

On Thursday, the 50-year-old "WandaVision" actor opened up about the "very surreal" moment when the court case started mentioning their private conversations. He also said he did not know the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor was married to Amber Heard at that time.

"I knew him before. But we hadn't spoken for years. During the marriage I didn't know them. So I wasn't around for any of that," Bettany said. "We live in a world without context."

What Did Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany Talk About?

Part of the text messages revealed how Depp told Bettany, "Let's drown her before we burn her!!! I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she's dead."

Meanwhile, the "Avengers" star replied that those were his thoughts, as well.

"I'm not sure we should burn Amber. She is delightful company and pleasing to the eye. We could of course do the English course of action and perform a drowning test. Thoughts? You have a swimming pool," Bettany replied to Depp.

During the legal battle, Depp already explained that Bettany knew they were joking at that time since he knew the details of his arguments with his then-girlfriend.

Before the new interview, Bettany already commented on the text messages he had with Depp and their leakage to the public was a "very strange" situation. He recalled how uneasy it was to see lawyers go through their emails and texts in the last 10 years.

Despite Bettany's recent statements, he constantly showed support to the actor, calling him the sweetest, gentlest, and the kindest man he has ever known.

Depp is scheduled to face Amber Heard again in their upcoming defamation case. The actor is suing his estranged wife after she wrote a damaging op-ed for the Washington Post years ago.
