Weeks after Glee star Cory Monteith's untimely death, an executive producer behind the Primetime Emmys announced that there will be a special tribute planned for him at the awards show.

"Something that reflects an homage," executive producer Ken Ehrlich told Deadline Monday concerning a tribute to Monteith. As for "what the extent of that is, or how we're going to approach it -- well, it's too early to tell."

Ehrlich said that he has felt pressure to memorialize Monteith at the Emmys since the actor's death.

"If Cory had passed away in March, we'd have had four months to look at this with a little more perspective," he continued. "The reason we're getting all of this discussion now is because he passed away two weeks ago. But we are going to deal with it."

He said that Monteith's tribute might be separate from the annual "In Memoriam" segment that commemorates television talent who died over the course of the TV season. Ehrlich added that it might be a musical tribute, considering Glee's status as a musical show.

Glee hit big at the Emmys in its first season in 2010, getting 19 nominations in total. Though his co-stars Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch were all nominated for season 1, Monteith did not receive a nomination. The show gradually decreased in nominations with each passing season, but it was still nominated this year for Lynch and guest star Dot-Marie Jones in addition to a few technical categories.

As for whether or not other big stars will receive separate tributes, like James Gandolfini, a representative for the Emmys told E! News, "Plans for the In Memoriam segment are still under discussion, as there are many television icons to remember this past year."

The 2013 Primetime Emmys will air Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
