It has been a big year for director Reinaldo Marcus Green. If that name sounds familiar, it should. His wildly successful biopic about Venus and Serena William's father, King Richard, has been a strong contender during award season, recently garnering star Will Smith a SAG Award and getting nominated for six categories in the Academy Awards.

According to Deadline, Green has penned a deal with film studio Lionsgate to write and produce a new dramedy that has yet to be titled. The project will be produced by True American producer Aaron Edmonds

An early synopsis for the film tells the story of a young man who is dealing with the burden of student loans and has to move in with his Puerto Rican mother he has never gotten to know. In his quest to save and pay back the money, he is instead given a lesson in where he came from.

President of Lionsgate, Nathan Kahane, put out a statement about Green's involvement in the film, which will be the first studio project of his career,

"We're huge fans of Rei's - he's a huge reason why 'King Richard' is such an awards season favorite. His incredible talent lets him tap into untold stories that celebrate cultures and traditions along with a universal humanity that runs through us all. We responded to this story immediately and we could not be more excited to be working with one of the premier rising voices in filmmaking today."

Green has always had a knack for finding the human side to the stories he tells. Familiar and heartfelt, films like Joe Bell starring Mark Wahlberg and Jaden Bell, brought the all too real tale of a father's love for his gay son who is coming to grips with his sexuality during his uncertain high school years.

But this new venture isn't the only film coming up for Green to be excited about. He is also working with Ziggy Marley, the son of Reggae icon Bob Marley, to create a biopic about the musician's life. It will be very exciting to see what other work Green creates in the years to come.
