Disney is certainly making up for its ignorant stance on Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill. It has been announced that actress Talisa Garcia will make history as the first openly trans woman to be cast in a Lucasfilm production.

It was announced some time ago that the popular Warwick Davis fantasy film Willow (1988), directed by Ron Howard, would be turned into a series for the popular streaming site Disney+. Garcia will be playing the queen, mother of Tony Revolori's (Spider-Man: No Way Home) character.

In a 2019 interview with The Independent, Garcia expressed interest in playing a parent at some point in her career,

"-- when you cast a transgender woman who happens to be a mother, people will start looking at it for what it is: normal."

According to Deadline, Talisa Garcia's being cast in the series,

"is the first known occasion an openly trans actor has been cast in a production from Disney-owned Lucasfilm."

This announcement comes off of the controversy when Disney CEO Bob Chapek was forced to apologize for supporting the "Don't Say Gay" bill, which would ban any discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools throughout Florida. Chapek has since backpedaled his opinion after a massive backlash and walkout by Disney employees. He said in a statement,

"It is clear that this is not just an issue about a bill in Florida, but instead yet another challenge to basic human rights. You needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights and I let you down. I am sorry."

Willow is set to begin airing on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
