What if luck was more than just a concept; what if it was a construct that affects our everyday lives, seemingly without us even knowing it?

In The new animated adventure Luck, everything we know about circumstance and chance is put to the test when an unsuspecting human discovers how the odds are actually stacked up, with the help of mythological creatures we think are nothing more than fairy tales.

The folks who gave us Toy Story and Cars have created a world where lucky rabbit feet, four-leaf clovers, and the notion of black cats as the harbingers of bad luck get turned on their heads the day Sam Greenfield, the most unlucky person in the world, stumbles upon the Land of Luck - only find out she can unite the denizens to get her luck back on track.

Starring Simon Pegg, Jane Fonda, Lil Rel Howery, Eva Nobelzada, and John Ratzenberger (Pixar royalty at this point), the movie has a great pedigree behind it.

(The only complaint I have, albeit a minor one, is the human element.

Can we just once have a studio design the people element in a more cartoonish way, like The Mitchells vs. The Machines pulled off so brilliantly, rather than creating the prefabricated Barbie doll fabrications seen in films like Encanto, where everyone appears like a product ready for sale, rather than a heartfelt artist's rendering of a unique animated character who might help the film stand out in a crowd.

Just my two cents. Moving on.)

Other than that, Luck could be a welcome change to the usual animated outings we've grown accustomed to. I guess we'll just have to wait until August 5th when it hits Apple TV+.
