Amid the chaos, one thing is clear: Suzhal: The Vortex looks like it has one heck of a story! Created by Pushkar and Gayatri, the eight-episode Suzhal is Amazon's first Tamil-language drama series, and is an investigative thriller about what happens in a small, industrial Indian town after the disappearance of a schoolgirl.

In the trailer, an ominous narrator and enthralling song warn us about impending darkness, and invoke the titular vortex. We're introduced to a number of characters who are looking for a missing girl, and spooky religious imagery abounds as the characters attempt to get closer to the truth.

Interestingly, in a quote that brings to mind other shows surrounding spooky events in small town, one of the central characters says:

"This is a small town. Everyone knows everyone else. And I thought I knew everything about everyone!"

The same character later wraps up the trailer saying, "Like a vortex, it goes round and round...and in the end, it will swallow us whole!"

Deadline describes the story:

"Suzhal - The Vortex begins with the disappearance of a young girl from a small town in Tamil Nadu. What begins as a missing-person investigative drama soon spirals into a thriller with twists and secrets that threatening to tear apart the town and its delicate social fabric."

Bramma, the director of the first four episodes, said:

"Suzhal - The Vortex is an effort in differentiated storytelling that's sure to strike a chord on various levels. With one dark mystery lying at core, the series maneuvers through a rollercoaster of situations, beliefs and secrets that makes the characters, and the viewers constantly oscillate between what's true and what's not."

Starring Kathir, Aishwarya Rajesh, Sriya Reddy, and Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Suzhal: The Vortex will be released in 240 territories in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and English, as well as several European languages, such as Latin Spanish, Arabic, and Turkish.

Suzhal: The Vortex drops on Amazon Prime Video on June 17, 2022.
