J.K Rowling received death threats after expressing her support for Salman Rushdie.

Following the shocking stabbing incident Rushdie got involved in during the CHQ 2022, Rowling posted a tweet in support of the novelist.

The "Harry Potter" franchise author said, "Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok."

While most of her followers also sent similar well wishes to the novelist, one social media user commented "Don't worry you are next."

The commenter, named Meer Asif Aziz, described himself as a "student, social activist, political activist and research activist."

Rowling herself spotted the death threats which led her to tag Twitter's official account to ask for the platform's help. She also thanked her fans for their supportive messages amid the threats.


Meanwhile, Warner Bros. already released a new statement condemning the worrying words and actions toward the author.

The press release, according to Deadline, stated that the company stands with Rowling and all the authors and creators who have been using their power to raise awareness.

"WBD believes in freedom of expression, peaceful discourse and supporting those who offer their views in the public arena. Our thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family following the senseless act of violence in New York. The company strongly condemns any form of threat, violence or intimidation when opinions, beliefs, and thoughts might differ," it went on.

Chairman of The Blair Partnership, Rowling's literary agency, Neil Blair, also shared a similar statements and spoke against those who offer threats of violence. He also sent thoughts to Rushdie and his family.

What Happened to Salman Rushdie?

Associated Press and other news outlets reported that Rushdie, the author of "The Satanic Verses," was stabbed in the neck and abdomen before his scheduled lecture in New York.

He was sent to a hospital via air, where he underwent surgery. At that time, his agent, Andrew Wylie, said that the 75-year-old was on a ventilator with a damaged liver and severed nerves in his arm.

Rushdie was also expected to lose an eye.

Days after the incident, he had finally been taken off a ventilator. Still, he continues to recover after the incident.

"Though his life changing injuries are severe, his usual feisty & defiant sense of humor remains intact," the statement released by his family reads, per CNN.

Meanwhile, the suspect - 24-year-old Hadi Matar - pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury with a deadly weapon.
