Chloë Grace Moretz Speaks Out on 'Family Guy' Meme, Reveals Developing 'Body Dysmorphia'

Actress Chloë Grace Moretz breaks silence on a viral and offending meme that still affects her up to this day.

Chloë Grace Moretz's acting career dates back to as early as 2004 when she starred as Violet in two episodes of the CBS series "The Guardian", and made her first film appearance as Molly in "Heart of the Beholder". She rose to prominence for her superhero role as Hit-Girl in the 2010 superhero film,  "Kick-Ass".

In a recent interview with Hunger magazine, the 25 year old actress revealed that she had been deeply affected by a meme that started in 2015. According to Moretz, who has been vocal about body shaming in the past, she had been deeply affected by the internet joke about her body.

"Everyone was making fun of my body and I brought it up with someone and they were like, 'Oh, shut the f--- up, it's funny,'. And I just remember sitting there and thinking, my body is being used as a joke and it's something that I can't change about who I am, and it is being posted all over Instagram." Moretz shares to Hunger magazine. "To this day, when I see that meme, it's something very hard for me to overcome."

The Viral Memes In Question

In 2015, Netizens began spreading photoshopped images of the "If I Stay" actress, exaggerating the length of her legs in various photos taken by paparazzi. However, the "Family Guy" meme she was referring to was of her being compared to a blonde female cartoon character with long legs and a short torso.

Moretz became 'Reclusive' For Years

According to the "Carrie" star, the meme had led her to become reclusive to public appearances, as getting photographed would make her "severely anxious".

"It took a layer of something that I used to enjoy, which was getting dressed up and going to a carpet and taking a photo, and made me super self-conscious," Moretz expressed. "And I think that body dysmorphia - which we all deal with in this world - is extrapolated by the issues of social media. It's a headf---."

As of now, Chloe Grace Moretz is set to star in the upcoming science fiction television series, "The Peripheral", which is set to premiere on October 21, 2022 via Amazon Prime Video.
