Jacob Elordi's "The Kissing Booth" co-stars Joey King and Taylor Zakhar Perez responded to the Australian actor's disparaging comments about the film series in a previous interview for GQ's Men of the Year issue.

King, who starred as Elle Evans in the hit Netflix rom-com franchise, has spoken up about what her co-star and ex-boyfriend said in the interview.

"I think it's unfortunate anyone would feel that way," King told Variety during the Balenciaga fashion show in Los Angeles Saturday.

"I had a great time making those movies no matter what anyone says."

Meanwhile, Zakhar Perez, who played the role of Marco Peña in the second and third installments of "The Kissing Booth," revealed that Elordi's criticism of the film series surprised him.

"I thought it was a shame because, to my knowledge, everybody else had such a wonderful experience. It's a shame that was his experience on the set," he told Variety at the GQ Men of the Year party at Bar Marmont in West Hollywood last November.

"When those movies came out, it was a time when we really needed something like that. I know from our fan interactions, getting stopped everywhere I go, what 'The Kissing Booth' means to people and what it brought them during such a dark time," Perez explained, citing the release of the second and third movies of the trilogy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I guess the silver lining is he still made people laugh and feel good," he added, talking about Elordi.

Elordi, who had his break and became famous after starring as Noah Flynn in "The Kissing Booth" film series, made headlines after revealing in his interview with GQ that he didn't want to make those movies before he made them.

"Those movies are ridiculous. They're not universal. They're an escape," he said of "The Kissing Booth" at the time.

The American teen rom-com film based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Beth Reekles was released on Netflix on May 11, 2018. After achieving commercial success, the second and third installments were produced, making it a trilogy of films.

The film series followed the story of Elle Evans (King) and her budding romance with Noah Flynn (Elordi), which put her lifelong friendship with Noah's younger brother Lee (Joel Courtney) on the line.
