After starring in other game-to-screen movies such as "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and "Jumanji: The Next Level," American actor and comedian Jack Black has joined the cast of "Minecraft," alongside fellow actor Jason Momoa.

According to Deadline, the 54-year-old actor will play the role of Steve in the Jason Momoa-led live-action adaptation of the popular video game.

Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen also join Black and Momoa as cast members.

Meanwhile, the film's producers include Momoa, Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui and the late Jill Messick. Jared Hess of "Nacho Libre" and "Napoleon Dynamite" fame will be directing "Minecraft."

Hess and Black previously worked together on the 2006 comedy film "Nacho Libre."

On Tuesday, Black took to his Instagram account to share a photo of him reading the book titled "Minecraft Basics for Dummies" and captioned it with, "An actor prepares."

With this confirmation, his followers, netizens and some co-actors shared their excitement about Black's upcoming game movie.

Zachary Arthur of "Chucky" commented, "No way, no way."

"Dude, please be careful. That game is seriously addictive. Don't lose yourself in it," American actor Emile Hirsch of "Into the Wild" quipped.

"This would be incredible," commented one netizen.

"Best video game movie ever incoming," wrote another.

Per Variety, "Minecraft" is scheduled for theater release on April 4, 2025. While the plot of the movie is still unclear, a film version of the popular video game has reportedly been in the works for years.

Mojang Studios and Warner Brothers first announced their plan to adapt the video game into a movie in 2014, reported Collider.

Momoa was announced to be the lead star of the "Minecraft" film in April 2022.

"Minecraft" is one of the best-selling video games in history, with over 140 million monthly users. In this sandbox-style game, players get to create 3D worlds using colorful blocks.

The game was developed by Mojang Studios and created by Markus "Notch" Persson using the Java programming language.

It was first made public in May 2009 but was fully released in November 2011. After its release, Jens "Jeb" Bergensten took over the development. Bergensten currently serves as the chief creative officer at Mojang Studios.
