Netflix's hit series, Orange Is The New Black, is tells the story of a fairly typical New York female who's sent to jail for a drug offense she committed 10 years prior. However, the twist of the circumstance is that Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) must serve her sentence with the drug dealer ex-girlfriend who got her there.

Although the storyline seems a far-fetched, "the woman whose memoir of the same name inspired the series did actually run into her drug-dealing, bad influence ex-girlfriend Nora behind bars," according to the Business Insider.

"I was crossing the unit to return my tray when I saw Nora headed toward me. I squared my shoulders, and adopted my most arctic ice-queen star. As we passed, she looked at me uncertainly," the real Piper Kerman penned in her memoir.

Kerman, who's a women's college graduate, and describes herself as an ex-lesbian, was behind bars for a year at a minimum-security prison in Danbury, Conn. in 2004.

It was ten years prior that she carried a briefcase of drug money for a lover of hers she called Nora Jansen. Much like her character played by Schilling on the program, Kerman is considerably certain that it was Jansen who turned her in for the crime she committed.

Interesting to note, unlike the show's sequence, Kerman never interacted with Jansen at the prison.
