Benedict Cumberbatch is having an incredibly successful year and the British actor took some time to talk with Jimmy Fallon about one of his upcoming films, The Fifth Estate.

While the Sherlock actor will soon return to the BBC for season 3 of the modern adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's tales, Cumberbatch will appear in The Fifth Estate starting on Oct. 18.

The 37-year-old actor will play Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks. Based on real events, the film chronicles the tough choices made as the organization worked to expose the truth.

"It's about the relationship between [Assange] and one of the guys who is a part of the organization...and its and examination of this extraordinary period of both WikiLeaks and Assange...for three years, from 2007 to 2010, with the Iraq and Afghanistan War leaks," Cumberbatch explained.

While not working, Cumberbatch has recently developed an intense fan following, particularly from a group who refer to themselves as the Cumberb-ches (although the actor is advocating a name change to the CumberCollective). His populartity has grown so much that Empire named him as No. 1 in their list of '100 Sexiest Movie Stars.'

"It's amazing," Cumberbatch said of his fanbase. "I've been doing this for over 10 years now, so when you get noticed on something like that its kind of crazy. I've had the same face for ten years and I wasn't in the top 1000, so maybe it has something to do with my work."

Other than Sherlock and The Fifth Estate, Cumberbatch can be seen in last spring's Star Trek Into Darkness as well as the upcoming 12 Years a Slave, August: Osage County, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
