Patrick Jane is cutting Lisbon out of the loop in a new Mentalist clip.

The former faux-psychic is just days away from his face-to-face meeting with his elusive nemesis in "Red John," but Jane (Simon Baker) is determined to finish his mission without former CBI Agent Teresa Lisbon by his side.

Just as Jane tried to confront his final five suspects on his own, he will once again push his closest ally away. While Baker claims his character will go through with his plan to kill Red John, TV Guide promises a tantalizing profusion of twists during the upcoming episode and Entertainment Weekly warns that the episode will end with a major question mark.

Jane borrows Lisbon's gun and heads off to meet with someone alone, most likely Red John. According to new promo photos from Spoiler TV, Jane won't be the only one wielding a weapon.

"All these years, Jane's always said, 'I'm going to kill that bastard,'" said series creator Bruno Heller, according to TV Guide. "Lisbon's always said, 'I understand you want to do that, but I am the law.' Now that issue is not a theoretical one, it's a real one."

Could this decision destroy their relationship? Lisbon appears to want to be there for Jane while he seems dead set on keeping her away, whether it be because he wants to keep her out of danger or because he doesn't want her try and stop him. When Red John is out of the picture - particularly if Jane becomes a murderer in the process - where will that leave Jane and Lisbon?

"Certainly Lisbon is beginning to think about what happens after and how is that relationship going to change. They've always thought themselves that it's a brother-sister, professional relationship but clearly there is more there that they're not really aware of themselves," Heller explained to The Hollywood Reporter. "Once Red John is gone, if he goes, the real relationship that they have with each other is then exposed to light, if you like, then they have to deal with that."

Meanwhile, Baker has hinted that the two may be closer than ever with an ever "stronger" bond, according to TV Line. Unfortunately, the pair must also whether a very large time jump following the conclusion of the Red John story arc.
