The Mentalist's Patrick Jane finally cracked the Tyger, Tyger code but exposing the conspiracy instigated the closure of the CBI.

With Gale Bertram seemingly Jane (Simon Baker) and Teresa Lisbon's (Robin Tunney) No.1 serial killer suspect, the FBI assumed control of the agency and the Mentalist team was left twisting in the wind, unsure of who they could trust following the events of "The Great Red Dragon."

"The world that we have spent six years building is crumbling, and we're going to see the remains pretty soon," explained Mentalist writer Jordan Harper, according to TV Guide. "In my head, this is a three-part episode and ["The Great Red Dragon" was] the middle part."

As Lisbon's team attempts to process the concept that the core of their institution posses a cancerous growth, they are confronted with a new roadblock by the name of FBI Dennis Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar). Announced in August as a recurring character for episodes 7, 8, and 9, Dunbar was recently promoted to a series regular, according to TV Line.

"Clearly, he's a no-nonsense type of guy, but I hope it comes off right away that he is not stupid," Harper cautioned TV Guide. "And one thing that somebody who is not stupid does is not try and butt heads with Jane. Jane is a master bullfighter, and just trying to butt heads with him will get you turned around. I think while Abbott is very serious about what he's saying and his intent to catch Red John, Jane might not be taking him seriously yet. But this will unfold."

Also promoted to series regular is Emily Swallow's FBI Agent Kim Fischer, according to TV Line. Although not set to debut until Dec. 1 "My Blue Heaven," the early promotion indicates that both agents will be major players in the post-Red John plot.

The Mentalist airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Click the video below to see a preview for the series' climactic "Red John" episode.
