Jennifer Lawrence was at the height of her career in 2013, but one stumble on a pair of stairs will forever be associated with the time she won her first prestigious award in the film industry.

The actress won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 85th Academy Awards on Feb. 24 for her role in The Silver Linings Playbook, in which she played a widow and recovering sex addict. She was up against fellow nominees Jessica Chastain, Quvenzhané Wallis, Emmanuelle Riva, and Naomi Watts.

On the way to the stage to receive her award, presented by The Artist star Jean Dujardin, she fell on the stage's second step after she tripped on her Dior Haute Couture strapless gown. Les Miserables star Hugh Jackman helped her up and she finally made it to the podium. While receiving a standing ovation, Lawrence started her acceptance speech by referring to her fall, saying, "You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell over and that's embarrassing. This is nuts."

At a press conference after the Oscars, Lawrence went off on one photographer who told her to "watch her step." She responded by making an obscene gesture.

When asked what happened in terms of the fall, Lawrence told the Academy backstage: "What do you mean, what happened? Look at my dress. I tried to walk up stairs in this dress. That's what happened. I think I just stepped on the fabric and they waxed the stairs."

One reporter asked if her tumble was a joke and she responded, "Was that on purpose? Absolutely."

The Kentucky native who also received an Oscar nomination in 2011 for her leading role in Winter's Bone but never won before, endured an embarrassing moment four weeks earlier when her dress ripped as she went to collect a Screen Actors Guild Award. Later on in the year Lawrence sat down with Barbara Walters for the latter's annual special 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year, which the actress was one of.

In 2013 Lawrence also won a Golden Globe Award, Independent Spirit Award, Empire Award, MTV Movie Award,  People's Choice Award and Satellite Award.
