As the New Year officially gets underway, several highly-anticipated movies are even closer to opening in theaters.

While some movies are holdovers from 2013 that had openings delayed for one reason or another, others are sequels in highly successful franchises. Several are films that are entirely new to audiences and could bring in big box office numbers purely because of their star power or original concepts.

Enstars has compiled a list of 14 movies to get excited about in 2014:

1. That Awkward Moment: This comedy centers around three 20-something guy friends who all find themselves at that awkward point in a relationship where they need to decide where exactly its going, and if they're ready to make the commitment to take things further. It stars Zac Efron in a raunchier role then fans are used to, as well as indie breakout star Miles Teller and Fruitvale Station star, Michael B. Jordan. It opens in theaters Jan. 31.

2. The Monument's Men: This biographical drama is about World War II soldiers tasked with recovering art pieces stolen by Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It was originally slated for a 2013 release, which would make it eligible for the 2014 Awards season, but director George Clooney wanted to take more time to make the film perfect. He pushed the release date back to do more post-production on special effects. The film stars Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Clooney, Bill Murray, John Goodman and Jean Dujardin. It comes out Feb. 7.

3. Veronica Mars: The Veronica Mars movie picks up 10 years later from where the television series ended. The movie was financed entirely by donations on Kickstarter, and fans clamoring for the project had fully funded it within 10 hours. The entire cast from the TV show, which was canceled in 2007 after only three seasons, are all set to come back: Tina Majorino, Ken Marino, Chris Lowell, Frances Capra, Ryan Hansen, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni and Kristen Bell. It comes to theaters March 14.

4. Divergent: Set in a futuristic society where people are divided into sects, Beatrice Prior finds her life on the line. She trains to stay in the sect her family belongs to, but an authoritarian leader seeks to kill everyone of her kind in an effort to seize control of the entire society. The film stars Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, Kate Winslet and Theo James. In theaters March 21.

5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier: The Marvel film picks up on Steve Rogers' story after the Battle of New York in 2012's The Avengers. He will team up with both Black Widow and The Falcon as he faces off against The Winter Soldier. In theaters April 4.

6. The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man will pit Peter Parker against not just one new enemy, but three: Electro, The Green Goblin and The Rhino. He will be forced to contend with these enemies while trying to protect his love Gwen Stacy, a promise he made to her dying father in the first film. In theaters May 2.

7. Neighbors: This comedy pits a married couple (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) with a newborn baby against their new neighbors: a college fraternity house led by party animals (Zac Efron and Dave Franco). In theaters May 9.

8. 22 Jump Street: Schmidt and Jenko are at it again after successfully dismantling a drug ring by going undercover in a high school. The undercover officers are now attempting the same task at the college level. In theaters June 13.

9. Jersey Boys: The next in a series of Broadway musicals being adapted for the silver screen is the success story behind Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The group -- known for the hits Sherry, and Walk like a Man -- had their fair share of tough times and personal clashes behind-the-scenes. In theaters June 20.

10. Dumb and Dumber To: 20 years after Harry and Lloyd set out on their first adventures, the two famous dimwits are back as they travel to find one of their long-lost children in the hopes of gaining a new kidney. In theaters Nov. 14.

11. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part I: The story of Katniss Everdeen continues as she reluctantly becomes the symbol of a mass rebellion against the Capitol. In theaters Nov. 21.

12. Horrible Bosses 2: While no official synopsis has yet been released, fans will surely see Kurt, Nick and Dale once again deal with issues pertaining to their employment. Nick's murderous boss Harken is expected to return, as well as Dale's sexually inappropriate boss Julia. Chris Pine joins the cast as another nasty superior who needs to be taught a lesson. In theaters Nov. 28.

13. Annie: The film puts a spin on the Little Orphan Annie story and her search for her real parents during the Great Depression. The cast includes Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne and Quvenzhane Wallis. Cameron Diaz plays the evil Miss Hannigan. In theaters Dec. 19.

14. Into the Woods: The Stephen Sondheim musical weaves together several classic fairytale stories, including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood. The film makes its big-screen debut on Christmas Day 2014. The cast is made up of Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp. In theaters Dec. 25.
