Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o may be in consideration for a lead role in the next Star Wars movie, as reports have emerged that the the filmmakers are looking for a more diverse and non-white cast.

According to Variety, sources indicated that creators and execs are looking for actors of different ethnicities to diversify the previous Caucasian cast, opening up the 12 Years a Slave stars' chances for a role.

The Hollywood Reporter also stated Nyong'o met with director J.J. Abrams about a role just before she took home the Best Supporting Actress award at the March 3 Academy Awards.

Leading Female Actress Already Cast For Episode VII?

More notable stars are also reported to be in consideration for a lead role in the film, including British star John Boyega from Attack the Block.

Other actors for the leading role include Ed Speleelers of Downton Abbey, Jesse Plemmons of Breaking Bad and theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.

Girls star Adam Driver, is also said to be in final negotiations for the film is Girls star to play the villain.

Yet, the cast hasn't been confirmed by Abrams, who recently spoke about all the rumors regarding the upcoming film.

"There've been so many of them," he told TheWrap in January. "It's amazing to see how many there are. ... But it's sweet because it shows that there's an interest in this movie that we all obviously know is there. But it is an incredible thing to see how many crazy things get thrown out that people often then write commentaries about. How happy they are, how disappointed they are about something that is completely false. It's a lot of noise, frankly." 

Star Wars: Episode VII is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
