One of the writers of Man of Steel 2 recently discussed the writing process and why it's important to give the audience what they don't even realize they want.

Batman vs. Superman Moving Release Date AGAIN Because Of Captain America 3?

David S. Goyer, who has written several superhero movies including The Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel, spoke with Comic Book Resources this week about his process for Man of Steel 2. The writer made special note of the careful balancing act between listening to fans and doing what they want and writing the story the fits best.

"I'm paraphrasing Steve Jobs, it's like you don't give the audience or the consumer what they want, you give them what they don't even know they want," Goyer said. "I mean, being involved in some of these comic book movies and stuff like that, people say, well, this is what they should do. And trust me, if we had just done exactly that I don't think the audiences would have been completely happy."

He also noted that some filmmakers "misfire" but suggested that paying too much attention to fans can be detrimental to the creative process.

Presumably, the Man of Steel 2 script is still unfinished, as one of the film's actors Jeremy Irons (who will play Alfred the butler) recently revealed that it was not done.

"I've read a script [but] I think it's not finalized yet," Irons said.

Man of Steel 2 stars Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Irons as Alfred.

Man of Steel 2 is scheduled for release in theaters on May 6, 2016.
