In the April 9 episode of Law & Order: SVU, the road ended for Olivia Benson's nightmarish stalker, William Lewis. However, with financial issues reportedly causing season renewal complications for the NBC show, there may be only one more season for viewers to see Benson in action, too.

Amongst the several individual series comprising the Dick Wolf created Law & Order franchise, its original spinoff, Law & Order: SVU, is the only one still remaining on television. This season, it ranks as the fourth-highest scripted drama for NBC, and is the longest-running drama series on TV right now, in general. While SVU is currently wrapping up its fifteenth season, reports are claiming that the series may be coming to an end soon.

Friday, Deadline stated, "SVU is having one of its strongest seasons in years, with star Mariska Hargitay getting notices for her nuanced performance." However, the show has become very expensive for its production company, Universal Television, who allegedly asked Wolf to accept a reduced salary in order for SVU to remain on-air, but he is reluctant to comply.

Rumor has it that Wolf has already taken a pay cut for the show in times past, and is not willing to do so again. Conversely, despite how well SVU it currently doing, it apparently isn't doing as well as it has in previous seasons, which is causing NBC bigwigs to request said cost reduction. Plus, newer NBC shows are performing well in ratings, if not better, and therefore, "the network is far less dependent on the veteran than it was just a couple of years ago." NBC still has about a month before it must present to advertisers a 2014-2015 programming schedule though, so perhaps an agreement will be met beforehand.
