True Detective Creator On A Parallel Crime Thriller?

The Emmy's are coming up in July and while it is almost a certainty that True Detective will feature on the list of nominees, it might also be facing lesser competition now. FX's Fargo was being pitched as a possible contender for HBO's detective drama but now the Coen brothers' film's television adaptation is going to be offered for nomination in a different category. True Detective is being sent in as HBO's entry for Best Drama Series and FX is backing Fargo for the category of Best Miniseries, according to an LA Times report on May 15.

But True Detective writer Nic Pizzolatto doesn't necessarily view this as a good move because he felt that his show had a better shot at winning in the category of minseries.

"I've got conflicted feelings about it, and they're probably what you'd imagine," Pizzolatto said. "I probably just went from being a contender to a long shot, but it was a great vote of confidence in their belief in the show's quality."

Interestingly enough, True Detective was also shorter -- two episodes less -- than Fargo.
