As fans have been eagerly looking for any developments relating to the second season of True Detective, it seems like some major news relating to the show is being teased.

It was recently reported that the release date for the show might be scheduled for January 2015 with Brad Pitt and Emma Stone set to star.

While Pitt was already in the running for quite some time, it was most recently revealed that the actor was actually close to signing the deal to star in the HBO detective drama.

Brad Pitt To Play A 'Bad Man' In HBO Detective Drama?  

In April, Emma Stone had expressed interest in starring on the show and also stated her choice of partner in funnywoman Kristen Wiig. This due seemed to be up for competition against Kate Mara and Ellen Page, who had been rumored as being offered to play the lead duo.

"That would be amazing. I would do True Detective with Kristen Wiig in a heartbeat," Stone told Vogue.

The first season of the show which was a critical success starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey in the lead roles as a pair of detectives who return to an unsolved case about a ritualistic serial killer after around a decade.

The series was created by Nic Pizzolatto and the first season was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
